The 17th Youth Championships of the European Union and the 26th Styrian Jugendopen were held in Mureck, southern Styria, from 31 July to 8 August. Organizer Erich Gigerl was able to offer best playing conditions for 145 young people from 20 countries in the multi-purpose hall. In the EU Championships the players fought in the age groups U8, U10, U12 and U14 for a total of eight titles, awarded separately for girls and boys.

The new champions in the girl groups are Antenreiter Jana (AUT, U8), Krasteva Yoana (BUL, EU 10), Basa Manasvita (NED, U12), Rejniak Zuzanna (POL, U14) and in the boy groups Uzunov Emil (BUL, U8 ), Toth Barnabas (HUN, U10), Kuti Oliver (AUT, U12) and Kan Efim (BUL, U14).

In the Styrian Open the winners are Klopf Richard (AUT, U10), Bauer Simon (AUT, U12), Sohn Benedikt (AUT, U14), Nejc Hanc (SLO, U16) and Jauschnegg Fridolin (AUT, U18). The Youth department of the Styrian Government and the Borough of Mureck were the main sponsor of the championships.
